In time for one of the biggest weeks of the year we introduce the Launceston Distillery Special Release for Tasmanian Whisky Week 2023 – the Port/Rum cask finish!
You might wonder, how can it be both a Port and a Rum cask? A few years ago, our friends @transwoodcooperage created something special for us: a unique hybrid cask made by combining really old port staves and rare rum staves in a 50/50 mix.
We then moved bourbon cask single malt whisky into this cask for an additional year, resulting in this wonderful creation. In fact, we made two of these casks, one of which was exclusively crafted for the Royal Australian Navy earlier this year. We released that cask to the crew of the HMAS Launceston and this cask, its sister cask is what we are presenting to you today.
Specially labelled with the Tasmanian Whisky Week Logo just for this special week.
